What is Continuing Professional Development [CPD]?

We have adopted the following common definition of CPD:

"The systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skills and the development of personal qualities necessary to the execution of professional, managerial and technical duties throughout a members working career."

CPD involves:

  • A wide range of activities that helps to improve performance in your existing role or prepare you for a new position in the future.
  • An element of objective setting and reflection when undertaking development activities so that you can stand back and consider the actual learning which you have gained as a result of the new experience.
  • Reassuring the public that our members are maintaining their competence through the ongoing updating of their knowledge and skills. As a professional body, we have an important role to play in society and have a duty to act in the public interest.

Through participating in the CPD scheme, our members, who are FCIBS or MCIBS, are entitled to use the Chartered Banker title.

  • We need to make sure our people have the opportunities to learn and qualify right across the full range of disciplines.
