What is a Chartered Banker?

A Chartered Banker:

  • is committed to professional standards of excellence
  • has successfully completed the Institute's Chartered Banker qualification
  • is continually developing their business-related and financial services skills and knowledge.

Chartered Banker status:

  • is recognised across the UK and worldwide
  • is approved by the Privy Council
  • can only be granted by The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland
  • is open to qualified Members and Fellows.

Our Chartered Banker programme is the premier qualification for professionals in financial services. It covers issues fundamental to today’s industry as well as developing skills for the future. Chartered Banker reflects our commitment to lifelong learning as well as our aim to widen professionalism and career opportunities for successful candidates.

Being a Chartered Banker is about developing modern professionalism and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the financial services sector. To retain Chartered Banker status, Individual members must meet the required 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per year.
