The Chartered Banker Institute warmly welcomes the publication of “Changing banking for good”, the report of the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards, and its recommendations for improving professional standards in banking.
 
Simon Thompson, Chief Executive, said: “Our research has shown that 9 out of 10 customers expect bankers to be professionally qualified, and I wholeheartedly support the Commission’s recommendation for a strong, unified professional body for banking. I agree that such a body would be a major force for cultural change.

"I would like to see such a body emerge as quickly as possible, building on the foundations for this already put in place by the Chartered Banker Institute and the Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board. My colleagues and I look forward to working with Government, senior banking leaders, regulators and others to take this forward.”

At the Chartered Banker Dinner in Edinburgh on 1st May, Andrew Bailey, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Prudential Regulation and Chief Executive Officer, Prudential Regulation Authority, commended the work of the Chartered Banker Institute in supporting the establishment of the Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board (CB:PSB), and publishing the Code of Professional Conduct and the Foundation Standard for Professional Bankers.  Some 70,000 bank staff are en-route to achieve the Foundation Standard by July this year.
