Privacy and Cookie Policy

Chartered Banker Institute is a trading name of The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland - Charitable Body No SC013927.  This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when you use our website or contact us by other methods, including email, post and telephone.

We collect information about you when you contact us for information, apply for membership, enrol for courses or place an order for any goods or services which we may provide.  We may also collect information when you voluntarily provide feedback, participate in surveys or respond to emails.  Website usage information is collected using cookies.

How information about you will be used
Personal information that you supply to us may be used in a number of ways, for example:
•    To provide information about our services and activities;
•    To process applications for membership or courses;
•    To provide ongoing support to students and members;
•    To provide goods and services, such as publications, to non-members; or
•    To produce our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) registers.

We aim to maintain all personal records accurately and securely to a reasonable standard.

We shall under no circumstances sell or provide information about our members or non-members to a third party for any purposes without express permission of the individual, except in the case of authorised agents of the Institute.  Personal details may be provided to other organisations with whom the Institute is organising joint ventures, so long as they are used solely for the purpose of that venture.

Information relating to an individual’s standing with the Institute may be provided to a company listed on our database as the person's employer, unless the member or non-member has specifically requested that the information should not be divulged.

We also reserve the right to disclose any of the information you provide to us where required to do so by law, or to comply with a regulatory obligation, or to assist in any investigation into alleged illegal or criminal conduct.

We shall not send out information directly to members on behalf of other companies, but will endeavour to keep members and non-members informed on matters pertinent to the Institute and the financial services industry.

Access to your information and correction
You have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.  If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please email or write to us at the address below. We may make a small charge for this service. Members may also view and amend their personal details via the members’ section of the website.

We want to make sure your personal information is accurate and up to date.  You may ask us to correct or remove information that you think is inaccurate.

Cookies
Cookies are text files placed on your computer typically used to collect standard internet log information, visitor behaviour information or to support or enhance the user experience. 

We use two types of cookie on our website, session cookies (members’ area only) and persistent cookies (Google Analytics). More information on these cookies is given below.

The Chartered Banker Institute currently operates an ‘implied consent’ policy regarding cookies.  This means that by accessing this website we assume you are giving consent to cookies being used.  If you are not happy with this you can set your browser not to accept cookies (for example, using ‘InPrivate’ for Internet Explorer or ‘Private Browsing’ in Firefox) and the above websites tell you how to remove cookies from your browser. Session Cookies
Used only in the members’ area of our website, session cookies, only last for the duration of your visit to the website and are deleted when the browser is closed.  These cookies are produced to implement user requests, enhance the user experience and support the interaction between the website and the underpinning database.  These cookies are generated only at the point when they are required to deliver a service requested by the user such as booking an event or updating personal details.

Persistent Cookies
We use Google Analytics to compile statistical reports and to analyse how our website is being used so that we can improve the experience for all visitors. Other websites and embedded content
Our website contains links to other websites. This data privacy policy only applies to this website.

The Institute uses a number of external providers on the website, to display content or to offer additional services. To show videos, for example, we use YouTube and we link to external suppliers such as Nelson Croom and GoodPractice to provide continuing professional develop resources. These are not the only services we use currently and we may use additional providers in the future but they are the most common examples of external content. The Chartered Banker Institute cannot prevent these external suppliers collecting information on your usage of embedded or external content. If you are not logged in to these external services then your usage will be anonymous but they may gather information such as number of views, pages visited etc.

We keep our privacy policy under review and we place any updates on our website.  This privacy policy was last updated on 16 January 2013.
