Complaints Procedure

The Institute's Code of Professional Conduct sets out the ethical and professional attitudes and behaviour expected of members. 

Complaints regarding regarding an alleged a breach of the Code of Professional Conduct by a member of the Institute should be made in writing to

Where:-

  • the complaint appears to be substantiated by prima facie evidence that there has been a material breach of the Code of Professional Conduct it shall be referred to a Disciplinary Committee established in accordance with the Institute's Disciplinary Regulations;
  • there is sufficient evidence to determine that there is only a minor breach the member may be admonished and/or asked for written assurances that similar breaches will not occur in the future;
  • the complaint does not fall within the jurisdiction and competence of the Institute or there is a lack of prima facie evidence that there has been a breach, it may be determined that no further action will be taken.

Details of the sanctions that may be imposed on members by a Disciplinary Committee are set out in the Institute's Disciplinary Regulations, and include suspension or expulsion from membership.

Members may appeal against the findings of a Disciplinary Committee, and any sanctions imposed, in accordance with the Appeals Process set out in the Institute's Disciplinary Regulations.

Individuals wishing to make complaints should note that the Institute may only investigate complaints against individuals who are current members of the Institute.  The Institute is not a statutory regulator and cannot investigate complaints against companies or against individuals who are not members.
