CPD Scheme

Attaining a professional qualification provides a sound foundation for the development of a successful career. We are continually reminded, however, that learning is a lifelong journey and, as such, there is an overwhelming requirement to keep up to date to meet the ever increasing expectations of employers, customers, shareholders, staff and industry regulators. Many of our members are already active in their ongoing development.

What you have to do

 • You must complete at least 35 hours of CPD activity.

 • There are 5 broad areas of CPD qualifying activity which are:

1. Professionalism and Ethics
2. Technical Skills
3. Management and Leadership Skills
4. Communication Skills
5. Community/Voluntary Activities

• At least 5 of your 35 hours has to be in the Professionalism and Ethics category.

• Professional Mortgage Advisers (PMAs) are required to have at least 14 hours of mortgage related activity.

• If your employer has Approved Employer Status (AES) you are only required to submit evidence for your 5 hours of Professionalism and Ethics activity and 14 hours of mortgage related activity, where appropriate (PMA status).  Currently National Australia Group, Airdrie Savings Bank and RBS Group have AES status.

Questions

Q. How can I achieve 5 hours CPD on Professionalism and Ethics?

A This may be achieved in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:

•      Via ethics training undergone with other professional bodies or providers;
•      Community/voluntary or similar activities which would encourage ethical and professional development;
•      Self-directed and informal learning; and
•      Participating in or delivering presentations, workshops, etc with an ethical/professional theme.

In addition, ethical case studies (including suggested solutions) have and will be included in “Chartered Banker” (the Institute magazine).  Reviewing each case study comprehensively will equate to 1 hour of CPD helping members meet the compulsory minimum of 5 hours on this topic.  These case studies can also be found within the Chartered Banker magazine on our website.  You will also find some “Ethical Dilemmas” as well as our online Professionalism and Ethics toolkit and legal  awareness updates from Brodies LLP, which can also count towards CPD activity.

Q. What CPD material does the Institute provide?

A  Within the members’ area of the website you will find our online Nelson Croom modules and our online coaching and mentoring tutorials.  You can also use our online mock examinations and other online tutorials within the student support section of the website as well as our work books, which are also available online.  Reading the Chartered Banker magazine also counts towards your CPD.

“We rely on the broad range of skills that the Institute provides.”
