Assignments

Students who are undertaking any Chartered Banker-based subjects will know that assignments are an integral element of the distance learning course.

This formative assessment element of the course consists of one homework assignment per workbook, giving a total of two assignments per single credit subject and one assignment per half credit subject (there are no assignments for the subjects which form part of the Regulatory Qualification Framework).

The assignments(s) for each subject are available from the Downloads section of this website – where a student is having difficulty viewing or downloading an assignment, a hard copy may be requested by emailing the Institute at info@charteredbanker.com or by telephoning 0131 473 7777.

The assignments have been especially structured, sometimes on a Case Study basis, which allows students not only to display their comprehension of the key points / principles of the study material, but also their problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Students are encouraged to seek out additional, alternative sources of information when tackling their assignments and where this extra effort is expended, Tutors will take cognisance of this when marking the work. Importantly however, if additional reference material is used, students must quote the source.

 Assignment Length

As a general guideline we recommend that students should write a maximum of 2,500 words in total when doing an assignment. This could be a single piece of work or several questions requiring shorter answers which total 2,500 words. In setting a maximum figure it is recommended that the minimum required for each assignment would be 1,500 words.

Students are required to ensure that all assignments are completed and returned to the Tutor within the required timescales

Additionally, students should be aware that Tutors are under strict instructions to be aware of evidence of any form of plagiarism and have the powers to deduct marks or to insist that the whole assignment is re-submitted.

Will Assignment Work Interfere With My Studies?
The assignments represent a large commitment on your part. Indeed you may even feel that the assignment work interferes with your study time - this is most definitely not the case.

The assignments have been designed:

  • As an aid to your home study
  • To encourage you to broaden the sources of your knowledge
  • As a method of providing feedback on your progress
  • To ensure that the theory you are studying can be put into practical applications
  • To help motivate you to continue your efforts
  • To allow you to show your commitment to the course.

The assignments for each subject are carefully chosen to allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the main subject areas. It is extremely important that you ensure completion of each assignment and submit it to your tutor by the deadlines.
