General FAQS

Q = What items should I have received on initial registration?
A = All new students should receive the following items from the Institute:

  • A letter acknowledging your registration for Distance Learning
  • An examination entry form*
  • A subject enrolment form
  • A calendar supplement
  • A copy of the latest Scottish Banker magazine
  • A direct debit mandate for future subscription payments
  • Personal Mentor letter
  • A Distance Learning Guide
  • Tutor contact details (Chartered Banker-based subject students only)
  • The textbook(s) for your chosen subject(s)

* If unavailable for downloading via the Downloads section of this site

Q = How long do I have to complete a subject?
A = From the date of subject registration, you have two years in which to sit the examination for that subject, otherwise you will have to re-register. Students who register for any of the RQF subjects should be aware that the registration period only lasts for one year.

Q =  I have had a few personal problems which have prevented me from fully applying myself to my studies. It seems unfair that I should be penalised by this rule when I am keen to continue – is there no leeway?
A = Yes – in exceptional circumstances – please contact the Student Support Helpline on 0845 270 8833 to discuss your situation. If possible, a solution will be offered.

Q = Is there a workbook for each subject?
A = Yes, the Institute publishes a distance learning workbook for every subject, which is included in the subject fee.

The Chartered Banker programme provides broad, flexible skill sets and a wide range of ways to achieve the qualification.
