Introductory Course for Diploma and Chartered Banker students

The course
This one-day course will introduce you to our distance-learning scheme. You’ll find out how to develop your learning and study skills and be able to network with other new students.

Structure and content
Student numbers are limited so that the tutor can work closely with a small group. The course will give you information on various topics including:

  • study skills (includes time management and note-making)
  • personal skills (includes memory aids)
  • tutor support
  • assignments
  • exams

In addition, the tutor will give students a brief overview of CIOBS and our qualification structure. We’ll explain in full about our distance-learning scheme and the various administrative procedures.

Networking
During the day you can network with fellow students who may be facing similar challenges to you.  Talking to them can help reduce any feeling of isolation that can affect distance-learning students during their studies. There is usually a mix of Diploma, Certificate and Associateship students on each course who will have different practical and educational experiences. The resulting ‘cross-fertilisation’ of study techniques will benefit everyone.

Where, when and who?
Introductory days are held in Edinburgh and a provisional programme of dates can be downloaded from our website (click here). As part of their registration fees, students can attend one introductory course.  Just apply on the enrolment form.
