Frequently Asked Questions

What should I study?

We have many course options but there are factors that you must take into account before deciding on which one to start on.  If, for example, you have just started to work within financial services or joined the bank straight from school, then to get the best foundation knowledge you would probably want to start on one of our Certificates.

If you have moved to another bank and have already gained a few years banking experience then you may want to consider doing one of our Advanced Diplomas.

Full details of our qualifications are on this website, but one of our customer service representatives (0131 473 7777) would be delighted to speak to you regarding your options.

I’m a graduate who’s just started in financial services.  What can I do?
As a graduate you are eligible to enrol for our highest level qualification - Chartered Banker.

As a graduate, what exemptions can I get?
You are automatically entitled to three non-specific credit exemptions.  Any further exemptions are only eligible from Section B of the course syllabus. The main criterion for any other exemptions is 90% of our subject syllabus must be completed to be exempt from a particular subject.

What’s the difference between an Advanced Diploma and Chartered Banker?
Advanced Diplomas are structured using Chartered Banker subjects to give you a qualification aimed at a specific area of banking. They can also provide experience of distance learning at degree level to students who have considered studying for Chartered Banker but do not want to commit themselves to such a large syllabus.  Credits gained from the Advanced Diplomas carry forward to Chartered Banker.

What order can I study my subjects in?
The flexibility is there for you to choose what subjects and in whatever order you want to do them.

When can I start
You can start any of our courses at any time of the year.
