What is a Chartered Banker?

Chartered Banker status is the gold standard for professionals working in the banking sector. Holders of the title are recognised as a highly qualified, professional bankers with a detailed knowledge of the modern banking sector and its ethical and professional requirements. For an individual to become eligible for Chartered Banker status they are required to demonstrate their knowledge of:

  • professional ethics and regulation
  • contemporary issues in banking
  • credit and lending, and
  • risk management

The Institute's Chartered Banker programme offers a range of modules covering the above, as well as retail banking, corporate banking and private banking.

A qualified Chartered Banker:

  • has demonstrated and continues to demonstrate standards of professional excellence
  • continually develops their skills and knowledge; and
  • complies with the Chartered Banker Institute's Code of Professional Conduct.
