“Winning this award feels like a fantastic achievement. I remember reading an article about last year’s winner, Jamie Broadbent, and thinking that to walk about with a national award was no mean feat. When the competition was launched I decided to enter with a proposal that I thought would challenge the status quo. The competition has been a great opportunity to promote an idea that I feel passionately about and to pitch it to key players in the industry.”
Josh Greenway, 2015 Winner, Natwest
“It helped me to develop new skills which I know I’ll continue to use throughout my career. The process offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the challenges currently facing our industry, and then develop an innovative concept that could help to make things better. Winning the award helped me to get my ideas out to a much wider audience and also raised my profile, both within RBS and across our wider industry.”
Almost immediately after winning the award, Jamie was interviewed for, and ultimately secured, a promotion. He feels certain that his participation in the competition played a significant part in his selection for the role. Jamie believes that young bankers in the industry have a responsibility to be champions of change “We are flying the flag for new and innovative approaches that will help ensure our industry continues to meet the changing needs of our customers.”

“Participation within the Young Banker of the Year awards has been invaluable to me. The process itself of being able to share your ideas whilst developing your own skill-set and experience alongside increasing exposure internally within your own organisation and externally is fantastic. The development and opportunity that have come from this is absolutely worth the hard-work and commitment required and I would encourage anyone considering applying for the award to do so.”
