Bill McCall, past President of the Chartered Banker Institute will be joined by CEO of Judo Bank, Joseph Healy for a one-to-one discussion focusing on the Australian landscape of banking.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • A twofold approach - ‘looking back to look forward’. Challenges facing us now and coming down the track. 
  • Australian viewpoints on important banking topics such as the state of the Australian housing market, loans to small and large businesses, the rise of inflation and the Australian economic climate, in general.
  • Learning lessons from previous financial crises/global economic events.

There will be time allocated for a Q&A session at the end of the discussion.

Bill is Principal of McCall & Partners, a corporate finance advisory business he founded in 1999. He is a seasoned independent Director and has been Chairman of more than 50 private equity backed companies. His portfolio has included Norwegian, North American and UK based Energy and Tech/Service-related businesses. He has chaired Listed and Private Company boards in the UK, Nordic region, and North America. He assisted in the start-up of broker/dealer McCall, Aitken McKenzie and is Chairman of Argyll & Buchanan a Prime advisory boutique.

From his earliest career at Clydesdale Bank passing the Institute exams, he then joined stockbroker Campbell Neill & Co, and was elected an Individual Member of the London Stock Exchange in 1990. He is a former Director of Charterhouse Tilney and was a Director of Merchant Bank Singer & Friedlander until 1999 He is a Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute, a Chartered Banker and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.

Joseph is a career international banker who has held executive positions at NAB, ANZ, CIBC World Markets, Citibank and Lloyds Bank.

Joseph holds a MSc (Finance), MBA, MSc International Management (China), MA in Contemporary Chinese Studies and MBA (Banking) degrees from University of London School of Oriental and African studies, London Business School and University of Nottingham in China. Joseph was an Adjunct Professor at University of Queensland Business School and in April 2021 successfully completed the Executive program in Neuroscience for Business at the Massachusetts institute of technology Sloan school of Management. He is currently completing an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health at Kings College, London. He is a Fellow of FINSIA, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and authored three books: ‘Corporate Governance & Shareholder Wealth Creation’ (2003), ‘Chinese Firms Going Global – Can They Succeed? (2018) and ‘Breaking the Banks – What went wrong with Australia’s banking? (2019).

Joseph was a Director of Football Federation Australia (FFA) from 2010-2018 and has five international football caps for Scotland at youth level.
