Foundation Certificate in Responsible Banking

Overview

Responsible Banking is a programme of study leading to the award of Foundation Certificate in Responsible Banking. This introductory Certificate will develop your knowledge and understanding of key banking concepts and principles; enhance your ability to apply these principles to benefit your customers, communities, and your organisation, as well as providing evidence of your investment in your own career.  

By the end of the Responsible Banking study programme, you will be able to:  

  1. Explain the purpose and functions of different types of banks and banking in a digital age, the role that banks, banking and bankers play in society, and the ways in which the UN Principles for Responsible Banking provide the framework for sustainable banking 

  2. Describe the range of products and services banks provide, and explain the impact of digital and data-driven innovations on the ways in which:  

    a. banks develop and deliver banking services; and  
    b. customers conduct their banking through a wide range of distribution channels 

The learner will be better able to apply these principles to help their bank deliver its strategy, perform well at work, and serve customers, communities, and the wider environment well.  

Key facts
  • Interactive and digital learning. 

  • Assessed by an online examination, lasting 30 minutes, and consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. 

  • Exams are conducted via remote invigilation. 

  • Registration is valid for 12 months. Learners are expected to sit and pass the examination within that time. 

  • The module costs £120 which includes your first exam entry fee. Exam resits cost £65.

  • In order to study the Foundation Certificate in Responsible Banking you must become a member of the Institute. An annual subscription fee of £30.00 will be payable upon registration. 

  • From 5 April 2023, members will now receive a digital certificate for this qualification via email usually within 5 days of successfully being awarded the qualification. To find out more about the new digital certificates, click here.

  • Once completed, you will be invited to become a qualified, Certificated member of the Chartered Banker Institute.

Responsible Banking includes 2 modules.

  1. Banks and Banking in a Digital Age
  2. Products and Services, Distribution Channels, and the Customer Experience

The learning approach includes:

  • applying learning at work
  • reviewing, reflecting on, and improving your practice within the context of your role
  • creating a personal development plan to develop your skills and further enhance your professional practice.

Am I Eligible?

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. This introductory banking qualification for individuals in the UK and internationally, particularly those who are new to banking, and regardless of their own specialism, who want to expand their knowledge and understanding of the business they are in – the business of banking.
