Learning at Work Week 2021
- Chartered Banker Institute
Learning at Work Week 2021 (17 - 23 May) commences today, with the theme of this year's campaign being 'Made for Learning' As the Chartered Banker Institute takes active measures to promote lifelong learning to all at every stage in their career, we have created a resource pack in support of this campaign.
The Campaign for Learning's definition of learning is;
"Learning is a process of active engagement with experience. It is what we do when we want to make sense of the world. It may involve the development or deepening of skills, knowledge, understanding, awareness, values, ideas and feelings, or an increase in the capacity to reflect. Effective learning leads to change, development and the desire to learn more."
Ben Homans ACBI, Specialist Business Manager at Lloyds Banking Group recently completed further qualifications with us, to build upon previous learning. We asked him what his thoughts are on continual learning and how he found the experience of studying overall.
What led to your decision to undertake studying qualifications with the Chartered Banker Institute?
"I had previously studied my Professional Banker Certificate and I wanted to strengthen my knowledge in commercial banking, and it felt like a brilliant opportunity to utilise an opportunity to further my knowledge and achieve Chartered Banker status".
How important is continual learning to you and specifically in relation to your role as a Specialist Business Manager?
"Continuous learning not only allows me to improve my knowledge and share this with colleagues and customers, but it also allows for me to adapt to the ever-changing financial industry and being able to implement and understand changes efficiently and effectively in my conversations".
How did it feel to share what you have learnt from the qualification with your team and seeing it be put into everyday practices?
"I felt really proud of being able to clarify the insight in my application and reflect on ways customers have been able to benefit from government support schemes, adapting to covid secure payments, and also bringing in digital banking conversations, to help support our customers’ journeys. I am very passionate about sharing best practices and upskilling my colleagues, to ensure we help support our customers in every single way. Whether this be by presenting presentations, delivering meetings or sharing various services via LinkedIn, I am a big advocate of supporting colleagues and customers."
What are your future learning plans?
"I am three quarters of the way to achieving my full Chartered Banker Status. I have intentions to review other certificates regarding the financial industry/greener finance and I believe this could be my next learning, which can help support and grow my knowledge for the future of banking".
What advice would you give others who are looking to continue learning while working?
"I believe we learn something new, each and every day. A new learning journey can only broaden your knowledge and horizons. The support and quality of insight from the Chartered Banker Institute is exceptional'.
