Transition Arrangements
We’re excited to introduce our updated qualification framework, designed to provide enhanced pathways to becoming a Chartered Banker. Whether you’re pursuing the Advanced Diploma or the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma (ACBD), this page outlines the options available to you.
FAQS
I’ve already completed or am currently enrolled in the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma (ACBD), launched in 2023. What does this mean for me?
You can now continue your studies under our new framework to become a Chartered Banker.
Under this framework, on attainment of the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma (launched in 2023), you can progress towards becoming a Chartered Banker and completing the Chartered Banker Diploma. You need to complete three Chartered Banker Diploma modules once you have attained the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma. These are:
- Certificate in Leadership, Strategy and Risk
- Certificate in Professional and Ethical Banking (coming soon). Prior to launch of this new module, you can study Professionalism and Ethics.
- Certificate in Risk Management in Banking (coming soon). Prior to launch of this new module, you can study Bank Risk Management.
I have already completed or am currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma. What are my options?
Your options depend on which modules you have already completed under the Advanced Diploma. Please see our transition arrangements below
I have studied previously under the Chartered Banker Diploma (2012) and completed modules but did not complete the full Chartered Banker Diploma. What options are available to me now?
Your options depend on which modules you have already completed under the Chartered Banker Diploma (2012). Please see our transition arrangements below.
Why is the framework changing?
In line with extensive consultations with our members and banks, the new framework has been designed in response to both the current and future changing requirements of the banking sector and the knowledge and skills expected of banking leaders. It is our aim to equip each banking leader or aspiring leader with the skills needed to thrive in their role, and to be responsible, professional bankers.
What is different about the new framework?
The Chartered Banker framework now consists of three smaller (200 learning hour) modules rather than two larger (300 learning hour) modules. Core themes of leadership, strategy, risk, transformational change, value creation, professionalism and ethics continue to be explored.
If I currently hold Associate Chartered Banker or Chartered Banker status will this be affected in any way by the new qualification framework?
If you already hold Associate Chartered Banker or Chartered Banker status, this will not be affected by changes to our qualification framework. However, to keep your status you must remain a member of the Chartered Banker Institute and meet your annual CPD requirements.
I am currently completing a university programme which will allow me to gain Associate Chartered Banker or Chartered Banker status. Will this route be affected by the new qualification framework?
If you are currently studying a Chartered Banker Institute accredited degree with one of our university partners, or studying a Chartered Banker Institute accredited programme with one of our partner organisations, you will not be impacted in any way.
