The Chartered Banker Institute is delighted to award Honorary Fellowships to Anders Bouvin and Sue Primmer, recognising their distinguished contributions to banking, financial services, and civic life, as well as their unwavering commitment to professionalism, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning. Both Anders and Sue served with distinction as Independent Trustees on the Institute’s Board, where their expertise, insight, and leadership made a lasting impact.

Anders Bouvin served as an Independent Trustee from 2020 to 2025, bringing to the Board more than three decades of experience at Handelsbanken, where he held a range of senior roles including Group CEO and President. His leadership was marked by a values-driven approach that placed trust, integrity, and customer service at the heart of banking practice, principles that resonate strongly with the Institute’s mission. In 2021, Anders was appointed Chair of the newly established International Advisory Committee and served in this capacity until his resignation as Independent Trustee in 2025.

Throughout his career, Anders championed a decentralised, customer-first model of banking, rejecting short-term incentives in favour of long-term relationships and responsible stewardship. His belief that “the branch is the bank” reflected a profound respect for local decision-making and professional judgement, and his stance against bonus schemes underscored his commitment to ethical conduct and public trust.

A strong advocate for lifelong learning and adaptability in the face of digital transformation, Anders oversaw significant investment in upskilling and operational efficiency at Handelsbanken. This enabled colleagues to focus on growth and service - an approach that mirrors the Institute’s emphasis on continuous professional development and the evolving role of the responsible banker. In recognition of his leadership, Anders was awarded “Banking CEO of the Year, Western Europe” at the International Banker Awards in 2018. In all his endeavours, Anders has exemplified the qualities of a Chartered Banker: trusted, principled, and forward-looking.

Sue Primmer served two terms as an Independent Trustee, during which she chaired the Remuneration Committee and contributed to the work of the Nominations Committee. She also played a leading role in the Institute’s SMART Futures initiative, chairing a panel session that highlighted the importance of inclusive career pathways in banking and the power of professional role models in supporting social mobility.

Sue is currently Director of Communications at The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF), a newly created senior role focused on expanding the reputation and reach of the charity, which aims to accelerate financial inclusion, understanding, and access across the UK. She is also a founding member of the Advisory Board at Allegory, an award-winning strategic communications agency, where she advises on proposition development and audience growth.

Her career spans senior roles across financial services, higher education, and local government, with a consistent focus on transformation, strategic communications, and public engagement. She has led national campaigns, forged cross-sector partnerships, and championed inclusive growth and ethical leadership throughout.

In recognition of her contributions to civic life, Sue was one of 100 women awarded the Freedom of the City of London, marking the centenary of women’s suffrage. She recently exercised this honour in traditional style by leading sheep through the City of London - a symbolic act celebrating the historic rights of freemen and women and their ongoing role in shaping the City’s future.

Both Anders and Sue reflect the values at the heart of the Chartered Banker Institute’s mission: professionalism, purpose, and public service. The Institute is proud to honour their achievements and enduring impact with the award of Honorary Fellowship.
