Recognition of Prior Learning

Your experience already counts for something.

Recognition of Prior Learning turns banking qualifications or experience you already hold into real progress towards Chartered Banker status, saving you time, cost and duplicate study.

Not sure where you stand?

Our interactive eligibility check walks you through a few quick questions about your qualifications and experience, and points you to the right next step: a module exemption, Associate status, full Chartered status, or one of our other qualifications.

The process

How to apply

Four steps from application to decision. Most applicants hear back within 10 working days.

01

Check the requirements

Compare your qualification or experience against our module specifications, or the Chartered Banker by Experience criteria.

02

Gather your evidence

Certificate and transcript (properly attested), or your CV if applying via experience. Overseas qualifications need a UK ENIC Statement of Comparability.

Attestation required
03

Submit your application

Complete the online form and pay the £250 application fee, deducted from your overall programme fee if you're successful.

04

Receive your decision

Our RPL team reviews your submission and lets you know the outcome by email, normally within 10 working days.

What counts as attested? A professional (accountant, solicitor, doctor, or your employer) confirms in writing: "I have seen the original document and certify that this is a complete and accurate copy," then signs, dates, and stamps it where possible.

Enhanced route

Already at degree level? You may skip ahead.

If your qualification qualifies for the enhanced route, what happens next depends on whether ethics was part of your prior studies.

With ethics

Chartered Banker status

Your prior learning included an ethics component aligned with our own Ethics qualifications.

Without ethics

Associate Chartered Banker status

Progress to Chartered Banker status afterwards, if you wish, via the Enhanced Route to Chartered Banker (ERCB). It includes an ethics essay and professional discussion for the candidate to complete. Candidates need to submit an up-to-date CV at the outset.
