This year’s Annual Banking Conference will be held virtually on 1st & 2nd November 2022 (each day’s session to run from 8am -9.30 am GMT). 

Join us for the first webinar of the series where our expert panel will discuss “Responsible Banking in a Global Inflationary Climate."

During this session the panel will discuss:

  • How can responsible banking support equality, diversity, reduce poverty and the other linked SDG’s and where are its current limitations?
  • The role of responsible banking in protecting and restoring nature and biodiversity.
  • How do we not stifle innovation and entrepreneurialism in banking in a high inflationary/low-risk appetite environment?

Steve has worked in banking for over 40 years and is currently a Non Executive Director at Bank of Ireland where he chairs the Remuneration Committee. He sits on the Advisory Board of The Arora Group and Kingsley Healthcare and was previously on the Financial Capability Board of the Money Advice Service. 

During Steve’s banking career he was CEO of The Hodge banking and life assurance businesses and Shawbrook Bank. 

Prior to joining Shawbrook in 2008, he led the UK banking businesses of Santander UK sitting on the UK Board of the Holding company and various UK subsidiaries. He also represented Santander on the Board of its US businesses. 

Prior to joining Santander in 2008, Steve spent eight years at RBS, where he was CEO of Business Banking, Retail Markets and Managing Director of Commercial Banking and Corporate Banking, Corporate Markets.  

Steve was presented with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University of Kent in 2016 for his contribution to Banking and the University. He has a young family and in his “spare time” likes to follow Everton football club and Sussex county cricket team.

Aditya is Director of Athena School of Management in Mumbai – India & teaches Impact Leadership & Differential Thinking. He has decades of experience across the corporate sector, consulting, academia & entrepreneurship and is a global speaker, faculty & advisory board member.

He is Chair of the GBSN Sustainable Finance & ESG Investments Impact Community. He is part of Steering Committee of the Good Governance Academy’s Training initiative. He is an Advisor to several start-ups in FinTech, Sustainability, ESG across the world. 

Aditya is a Salzburg Global Fellow in Corporate Governance. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland (FRAS), Royal Anthropological Institute (FRAI) & Member of Chatham House in London.

He has completed the Wharton School’s Accelerated Development Program (ADP), Doctoral Scholar at the University of Bath (UK) and holds an MBA from the SPJIMR in Mumbai.

Dr Vian Sharif

Dr Vian is Head of Sustainability at FNZ and Founder of science-based nature insights platform NatureAlpha, collaborating with academics at Cambridge and Oxford. She is part of the team driving the development of innovative technology solutions to catalyse the shift to more sustainable capital allocations, and ultimately a more sustainable world.

Prior to this, she spent over a decade at global asset manager Investec. As part of a number of governmental and international sustainability advisory groups, she was a Member of the Taskforce for Nature Related Disclosures Technical Experts Group, and the Business Advisory groups of the Convention on Biodiversity.

Yasser El-Ansary was appointed FINSIA Chief Executive & Managing Director in April 2022. 

Previously, he was Chief Executive of Australian Investment Council from November 2013 to April 2022 where he was responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organisation’s work in representing the private capital investment industry in Australia. 

Prior to joining Australian Investment Council, Yasser was the General Manager of Policy and Advocacy for Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand. 

He has more than 20 years’ experience as a business adviser and public policy expert, through his previous roles with PwC, Rio Tinto, Frasers Property Australia, as well as the Department of Treasury in Canberra. 

Yasser is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University and a Master of Taxation Law from University of New South Wales. 

In April 2016, Yasser was appointed by the Federal Government to the Medical Research Future Fund Advisory Board where he advises on the strategy and priorities for medical health research funding from the $20B fund.

Eqhwan Mokhzanee joined AmBank Islamic Berhad as the Chief Executive Officer in 2015. He has been the Group Sustainability Champion of AmBank Group since 2019 and is responsible to oversee the Group Sustainability Department.

Eqhwan commenced his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and subsequently joined the corporate advisory practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Kuala Lumpur. Thereafter, he worked with local and foreign banks where he was exposed to corporate banking, debt capital market, corporate finance, financial advisory and real estate investment. Other than in banking, his career has provided him with experience in corporate management, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), strategy development and operational start-ups within and outside Malaysia.

Eqhwan has been invited as a speaker at conferences in Malaysia and overseas. He has also developed award-winning and innovative Islamic financial structures, and authored research papers on Islamic finance.

Eqhwan has received a number of awards such as the “Islamic Banker of the Year 2019” and “CEO of the Year 2021” from the Global Islamic Finance Awards, and was named as the “Best Islamic Banking CEO Malaysia” by Global Banking and Finance Review for 3 consecutive years (i.e. 2019 to 2021). He was also conferred the Banking CEO of the Year Malaysia 2020 Award by International Business Magazine.

As part of his contribution towards talent development, Eqhwan is a member of the Industry Advisory Panel of the Azman Hashim International Business School, University Technology Malaysia (UTM) and was a Professor of Practice at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).

Eqhwan was the 1st Chairman of the industry-level Working Group which developed the value-based intermediation (VBI) sectoral guides for the palm oil, renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors which were issued on 31 March 2021. These sectoral guides are intended to facilitate financial institutions to assign ESG rating for investment and financing decisions.

Eqhwan has Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accounts (MIA). Eqhwan is also a Chartered Banker with the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) and a Chartered Profession
