Handelsbanken has been expanding in the UK for nearly 40 years, but what is its history, why is it different and how has it adapted to cope with the modern times?

Chris Wardrope who has been with the bank for the last decade will share the Handelsbanken story and how they have evolved with the times. He is also a former DBM CPD Prize Winner at the Chartered Banker Institute and will share what impact that has had on his career and the importance of being a member of the Chartered Banker Institute.

Having entered the banking sector in 1992, Chris now has over 28 years’ experience in the industry, across three organisations.  This includes time in Retail, Business Banking and Corporate.  In addition he has had two enjoyable spells working in credit during his career. 

Having successfully obtained his 'MCIBS' qualification 2000, in 2001 he was nominated as DBM CPD prize winner by the Institute.  He has proudly retained the designation of Chartered Banker in each year since.

Working with Handelsbanken since 2009, he established the banks 64th branch in the UK (2nd in Scotland) in Edinburgh and in 2014 took the opportunity to move to Manchester, to manage the regions Large Corporate clients.  Thereafter, moving into a credit role within Handelsbanken Regional Office, where he was primarily responsible for the Bank’s Scottish Branches.

Back customer facing, he is now based in Lancaster for Handelsbanken as a Corporate Manager, where he is responsible for managing and supporting a portfolio of clients, with a focus on business development. 

In Lancaster, he has become well established in the local business community and is an active member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and is also involved with Lancaster University Management School.
