Responsible Banking round-table

Responsible Banking – what is it, and how can it help us embed an ethically professional, socially purposeful approach in financial services?

In September 2019, the UN launched the Principles for Responsible Banking with the support of 132 founding banks from 49 countries. The Chartered Banker Institute was one of the first non-banks to endorse the Principles, which in our view are fully consistent with an ethically professional, socially purposeful approach to banking. This Round Table event in partnership with CISI explored what is meant by ‘Responsible Banking’ – a broad term, covering but not limited to green and sustainable finance, alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, responsible lending, financial inclusion and supporting customers, communities and businesses. Our panel also explored these and related topics.
