Event details

Barry will discuss earlier populist waves and argue they tend to thrive most in the wake of economic downturns. He will show there is no one single solution to address the concerns populists raise, but there is an obvious start: to shore up and improve the welfare state.

He will then be joined by Stephanie Kelly, Senior Political Economist; ASI Research Institute at Aberdeen Standard Investments in taking questions from the audience.

Speaker: Barry Eichengreen, author of 'The Populist Temptation' and Professor of Economics and Political Science; University of California, Berkeley
