Join us for an insightful in-person talk with Simon Culhane at the Library of Mistakes, 33A Melville St Ln, Edinburgh, to explore one of the 21st century's megatrends: the global increase in longevity and the challenges posed by aging populations.

This talk will explore changes in life expectancy in the UK over the past 60 years, compare trends across various countries using population pyramids, and discuss strategic implications for economies facing declining populations.

Simon Culhane, Vice-Chair of the Epsom and Ewell branch of Citizens Advice, boasts a distinguished career spanning various sectors. For nearly two decades until September 2022, he served as Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, leading its international expansion, which garnered recognition for its exams in over 70 jurisdictions.

With a foundation in finance, Simon's career commenced in the banking sector, culminating in a Directorship at Deutsche Bank's Global Investment Bank. Notably, he spent fifteen years at Lloyds Bank, assuming diverse managerial and customer-facing roles, including Group Manager for the Kensington Area and Senior Trainer at the Bank's Management Centre. His tenure also included an Assistant Vice-Presidency in Chicago, USA.

In the public sector, Simon's contributions were equally impactful, including a significant secondment to the Cabinet Office in the late 1990s as Deputy Director of the Prime Minister's Efficiency Unit. He also played a pivotal role at University College London Hospital as Project Director, instrumental in establishing the first wave of Foundation Trusts in 2003/4.

Simon's professional accolades include Honorary Fellowships from the Chartered Banker Institute and the Guild of Investment Managers, alongside his Fellowship with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Residing in Ashtead for over 35 years with his wife Sarah, Simon is deeply ingrained in his community, chairing and actively participating in Ashtead's tennis and badminton clubs. Additionally, he enjoys sailing and is an active supporter of AFC Wimbledon.
